maggie is home for good

It's official. I finalized Maggie's adoption yesterday. Happy Day! She's a very, very good girl, but in desperate need of clear boundaries, so training now begins in earnest. Welcome to a brand new day, sweet girl. Nothing In Life Is Free...

I landed on Maggie for her name last week. It's just who she is, Maggie. Her first nickname: Pie.

Here I am, in the zone. Listening to the touch.

day three of our new life

Another name for Baby Girl came to me at 2am last night. Georgia aka Georgie. So that's today's tryout.

The first night she wouldn't leave the safety of her sofa. Last night she slept the whole night in bed with me, curled up close. What heaven!

Here I am, each of my little head
furs inviting you to touch me.

Georgie has the most discrimination regarding food of any dog I've ever met.

This morning I fed her boiled chicken thigh, baked yam and egg. It occurred to me that I'll have to figure out how much to feed her so she doesn't gain weight. F
eeding like this isn't like measuring out 1 1/2 cups of dog food. And she's not like Bird, who the vet told me I couldn't feed too much.

But this morning she ate about 2/3 of what I put in her bowl and then walked away. Imagine a dog leaving a bowl unfinished. It appears maybe that she'll self-regulate her food intake.

Here I am, on my new porch where I
can
sniff and bark at the horse
I see down in the pasture.

day two in the life of baby girl

Baby Girl's name is morphing from moment to moment. Here's the roll call so far: Delphine morphed to Dolphin.

Then next came Sofa, because that's her favorite place.

Then a friend suggested Sufi after hearing Sofa. That seems good too because I think this girl is a realized spiritual master.

Baby Girl got a little boo-boo on her paw. So we took her to the Petaluma Animal Shelter to get her fixed up. Here she is with Valerie, the Director of Training at PAS. Valerie and all the staff at PAS, thank you for your hard work, love and care.

old collar on a new girl

Delphine has morphed into Dolphin overnight. Here she is in Bird's Paco Collar, looking just as beautiful in it as Bird.

my new baby girl came home today

My new girl came home with me today.

Here we are, me and my new baby girl
at the shelter before coming home.

At the shelter they said they thought she'd lived her whole life on a chain outside, making litter after litter. But, when I opened my car door for her, she hopped right in. Then she hopped right into the back seat. Hmmm...

At my house she walked right in and got to work sniffing and exploring.

When I was making dinner, I went to check in on her in the living room. Apparently she had no problem making herself at home.

 Here I am, getting comfy.

As I sat with her, a name for her popped into my mind. Delphine. I looked up what it meant.

Delphine \d(e)-lphi-ne, del-phine\ as a girl's name is of Greek origin, and the meaning of Delphine is "dolphin". French form of a name which refers to the Greek town of Delphi, home of a famous oracle. The Greeks believed that Delphi was the earth's womb; the dolphin's shape resembles that of a pregnant woman.

How fitting for a retired mama. Earth's womb.

I don't know if this name will stick. But I love how it just popped into my head, without even knowing the meaning. She is an elegant, mature, classy lady and she deserves a name that expresses those qualities.

You've all given me some great name suggestions. Thank you. Her name will probably morph as I get to know her.

Isn't she just gorgeous? I think Bird is happy that a new dog is making room in my heart.

homecoming

I've been on an active search for my next dog for awhile. I found her yesterday, at the Petaluma Shelter.

Look who's coming home on Tuesday. She's going to come stay with me for a week or so, so that she and I can get to know each other and make sure this is right.

Here I am, a little pink piglet.

This beautiful girl is super soft, easy and squishy. A love bug. Has had about 100 puppies. A deep soul. Just wants to hang out quietly.

Here I am the day I met my new Lady. I liked her very much.

The shelter named her Amber. That doesn't seem quite right to me. Do you have any suggestions for her new name?

another surprise from the vet

This just came unexpectedly in the mail today from the vet. Bird's ceramic paw print. Once again, I had no idea they were going to do this. My sweet Bird, I miss you.
