just in case

I'll get right to the point. I'm not doing so well. At all. I think I've finally started on that flight path Home. So, just in case, I want to start saying goodbye now, while I can. I have some infections that won't clear up, because my immune system is pretty much offline now. My paws are a wreck. My vet has tried treating my paw infections for bacteria, fungus and yeast and they're not getting better.

I am tired and sleep a lot. Sometimes my Lady gives me a bully stick and I'm not interested.

And the most ironic thing is that I now look fat! After all that starving and dragging around my bag of bones, to end up so puffed up and bloated around the middle, I hardly know what to say. It happened in one week. My belly now looks like I eat five meals a day, with my bowl filled with peanut butter and bacon grease syrup. But I sometimes don't even finish my meal. It's like that.

My Lady has asked me to tell her when it's time to help me fly Home. I'm not there yet. But it feels like soon. I just want everyone to know so it's not a surprise.

I love you. Thank you for making the last part of life so beautiful. I have been the happiest of dogs, loving my Lady, having all the yummy food, sharing my story, and living in the heart of so much love.

I'll write again if I can. This is just in case.

Thank you.
I love you,
Your Bird

Here I am  with my yucky paws,
my big belly, and my full heart,
sending you love.

  8. Much love to you and your wonderful Mama, Birdy. I'm so glad you've packed so much into these seven months since you were found a starving skeleton on the street and that when you fly home, you will do so surrounded by love. Thank you for living with so much zest these last months--it's been a pleasure to know you, but when a dog no longer wants a bully stick, you know it's about time to shuffle off this mortal coil. So many hugs your Lady, and to you, sweet Bird, I'm choked up thinking about you going, but I understand that it's time.

  9. You and your wonderful Mom have touched so many hearts. I hope these last moments give both of you peace and love. Your Mom will have such wonderful memories in this blog as will we all. You have fought the good fight and lived a large seven months while giving so much to all who were lucky enough to have entered your sweet life. Much love to you both and when the time comes you both know we'll all be there in spirit to send you forward. On golden wings!

  11. I almost missed this blog. I am so glad I checked again tonight. Thanks so much for giving us a warning and thanks so much for doing right by this beautiful Miss Birdy and sharing your life and hers with us. You didn't have to, yet you did, and we all got to know this amazing and beautiful dog and love it along with you. You are a strong person for taking in a dog you know doesn't have much time. But you reminded us why it all counts. Not everyone can do that. You and everyone involved that helped this precious and beautiful dog reminded us that she got several months of quality care and love and that is wonderful. She finally got the love and attention she deserved from all of you very special people who stepped up to the plate to help a dog that would normally have been overlooked in a shelter and just euthanized. Thanks again and may you find comfort in knowing she knew love and care and attention and will be waiting for you when you are ready to go. Like Donna said so eloquently in another blog here her wings are almost ready to fit her. Tears of sadness knowing the time is soon yet joy for what you all did for her and she will be greatly missed when the time comes and her wings are ready. Thanks again and we can never thank you all enough for sharing Miss Birdy with us.

  14. Oh, Birdy, honey. When you're ready, I know you'll find the right way to tell your Lady. When you're ready, I know you'll find your way right to the foot of the Rainbow Bridge. When you're ready, I know the love and prayers of your Lady and all of us who have grown to love you, too, will wrap around you and carry you all the way Home. We'll never be ready to let you go, but, when you're ready, we'll say goodbye with one last kiss, one last ear scratch, one last gentle belly rub.

Birdy is such a fortunate gal for having received such amazing care from that big heart of yours. Me and my girl Georgia are sending prayers for strength and sweet puppy kisses your way. Rest easy, sweet Bird.

  16. Oh my sweet Birdy. I know that when the time comes for you to cross that Rainbow Bridge you will fly across to sweet green grass to play on, lots of cheeseburgers and butt scratches to make you happy. I'm so sorry that the life you had before the Nice Lady was hard but know that people all over the world love you and hope that your passing is gentle.

Please tell Nice Lady that we love her too and that our tears and prayers go with her for her loss. Thank you so much for sharing your good fortune in your new life with all of us. I love you Birdy. When you cross the bridge, look for my Will and Gracie. They will take care of you and show you the ropes until you meet with Nice Lady again.

Hugs, kisses, and butt-scratches for the sweetest blogger in the world.

  18. Birdy, I am honored to have known you and to have been among your friends. You have shown us all how to be full of Life even when there's not a whole lot of it to go around. Take care of yourself and your Lady and don't worry about us silly humans and our sadness at saying goodbye to you. love, Letti and the rude dogs.
